I just finished reading Townie by Andre Dubos. It was an advanced reader hard copy. Interesting non-fiction. Andre tells the sotry of growing up in a single parent home. He writes about the physical abuse that he encounters growing up. He describes the relationship with father in youth as distant and uncomfortable. As adult he comes to appreciate his father and family members and appreciate what they have to offer.

Sweet Potato Queens

I recently listened to the audio version of Sweet Potato Queens by Jill Conner Browne. It certainly kept my interest while driving. The book centers around best friends from high school as they grow up, apart and reunite. Each character experiences ups and downs throughout the story. The characters are unique and colorful. I recommend reading are as I did, listening to Jill's southern style.

Yesterday, I watched the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I have mixed feelings about the movie. I liked some parts but just like any book turned movie, it rearranged some parts. I now have to read the rest of the series to see if some of my unanswered questions can be answered. I read where an American version of the film may be coming. It should be interesting. The main character Lisbeth Salander plays a strong character dealing with major personal issues. We all love dram.

I have just returned from holiday in Orlando. I am behind (not that I have a deadline) on reading for pleasure. I spent my vacation time attempting to catch up on my magazine reading. Way behind on that one too!!! I am almost finished Elizabeth Gilbert's book on the research of marriage. It is interesting how various cultures view marriage. In Louisiana we view "marriage" different from others as well. Growing up in a small southern community marriage for the most part ,was an acceptable practice that took place at a young age . I was married by eighteen. Not something I would recommend to any culture. Anyway I'll return to this discussion later. I haven't even had time to check in with others to see what they are reading.....

I am all involved in Elizabeth Gilbert's follow up to Eat, Pray, Love, Committed. I was so able to relate to E.P.L. since I too was a survior of divorce. I think I'm really going to enjoy Committed. It is more of research project about marriage than a story. Stay tune for my opinion.

SEX IN The City 2 featured a book by Suzanne Sommer's Breakthrough Eight Steps to Wellness Life Altering Secrets from Today's Cutting -Edge Doctors. Hope to learn some info. that may help me like Samantha!!!

Finally Finished

Yeah! I finally finished "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo." It took me about halfway through the story before I was hooked. The middle and ending was exciting and kept me on ends. Now I have to read the entire series.

This is one book I think will be a great movie.

I've been reading this book for at least two months. I'm almost finished. I like the story, but I get tired reading the details in the story. I want to complete it before the movie comes out. I think this is one story that will lend well to a movie. It might actually be better on the screen.

I just finished reading "The Carrie Diaries."" It is based on Carrie during her senior year of high school. Typical high school drama, boyfriends, parties, misfits, cheating, chick fights, etc. I typically don't like endings to books because well they are ending. But in the case of this book I like the ending because I already know what happens next.

In the Beginning

I love my Sony Reader!!! Being visually challenged it provides a font that I can see. It is small but just large enough that I can keep up with it. Best features are its ability to download from the public library. So Cool!!! Technology Geeks are now reading or rather listening to Emily Giffen's Heart of the Matter. I like her writing style and this promises to be just as good as the rest of her books.

I am also reading The Carrie Diares by Candace Bushnell. This book provides the background of "Carrie" before Sex in the City. It is easy reading and since I already know the main charater I get such a visual of the events in the book.
